Be a Mentor.

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17 NIV

One way volunteers help yoke inmates and returned citizens to Christ is through one-on-one mentoring. YPM’s mentoring program is a unique opportunity for volunteers to connect with and support those who are seeking guidance and personal growth during or after incarceration. Mentors provide guidance, encouragement, and support to help mentees develop essential life skills, set goals, and work towards a brighter future. YPM provides training and ongoing support to equip volunteers with the tools and resources to be an effective mentor.Mentors and mentees meet at least twice per month in person, on a phone call or online. They grow in relationship with Jesus Christ, encourage one another and seek solutions to challenges.

In addition to the incarcerated, returned citizens — including those assisted through the Meet at the Door ministry — are candidates for mentoring relationships.

Real-life stories about our program

  • Conrad and Gabriel met when Gabriel was an inmate at Coal Township SCI, and Conrad became his spiritual advisor. They maintained  the relationship by phone calls and occasional in person visits after Gabriel became a returned citizen.

  • Lewis and John met as inmates in a state correctional institution. Now Lewis is a YPM state board member and is mentoring John who is a more recently returned citizen
